“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

The scene is set. Jesus gathers at the table with his disciples to break bread and break the news that this is their Last Supper together. Alarming fear, bitter betrayal, and tension-laden uncertainty fill the room. In the midst of this unsettling moment, the Gospel of John records Jesus’ “famous last words.” Central among these was the commandment to love one another. How do we survive, or even thrive, in times like these? We put love into action, replacing “othering” with “neighboring.”

This series is offered in collaboration with Resurrection: a United Methodist Church as part of their Campaign for Kindness, 2026. Resurrection’s kindness campaigns are developed to increase the levels of civility and kindness across our community and counter the growing polarization.

Prayer can be an abstract idea for some of us. When, where, what, and how do we pray? And why would we do it? Cultures and religions throughout time and space have turned to tangible objects to help them answer these questions. In this worship series, we will explore the ancient and cross-traditional use of prayer beads as a way to connect with the Holy and with each other for “all our days.”

“I decided to add a series on prayer to the Worship Design Studio library at this moment (2026) because I believe we need rhythms we can count on. Across time, geography, and traditions, daily prayer has been aided by the use of prayer beads. This has become popular for Protestants as well in recent years. Your church (all ages) will delight in creating and using prayer beads as a way to center attention, feel the presence of God as close as the beads in our hands, and to pray easily repeated prayers of presence, praise, purpose, petition, pardon, protection, and persistence. In this “Come to the Table” series, we hear the call to dine with Jesus — an invitation that means much more than a simple eating experience. It never was with Jesus. The table was the place where he fed people, and also challenged them to acts of hospitality that reflect God’s way. When we say “yes” to the place at Christ’s table, we accept a way of life that embraces God’s definition of love, peace, grace, and joy. Let us celebrate the depth of communion to which we are called.

I love a dinner party! The pandemic lockdown created in me an urgency to spend more time around tables with old and new friends being fed in body, mind, and spirit. It is at the table where, as my dearly-departed friend Nina Reeves once told me, we “speak about the deepest things we know right away.” This is my hope for you as you embark on this series that highlights the table of grace that is laid for us. It is my hope that you will gather around the table of Jesus and gather at tables in your homes to share deeply. It is my hope that you will invite those who feel isolated and who may be feeling a lag in hopefulness to tables of love and joy. And it is my hope that our habits of gathering will also bring more peace in turbulent times. To this end, this five-week series includes not only sanctuary-based worship scripts, but also a version of the scripts adapted for small group, family, and/or Dinner Church use. The series is based on the RCL Year A scriptures for September, culminating in World Communion Sunday, but can also be used any time of year.

Awe is a profound emotional response that can significantly impact our wellbeing and perception of the world. Awe often arises from experiences that transcend our usual understanding, such as viewing vast landscapes, listening to powerful music, encountering extraordinary acts of kindness, or feeling heightened devotion and a Divine Presence connecting us all. To be a “Purveyor of Awe” is to be intentional about curating a life of spiritual depth. This has implications not only for one’s own life, but also as motivation to tend to the wellbeing of others.

Friends, I’ve been on a journey of discovery for a few years now about “elements for curating a life of spiritual depth.” I have been curious about incorporating modern research from the sciences and wisdom from the mystics alongside biblical texts. What I discovered was that “awe” is at the core. My new offering is a fully-scripted series about awe that explores the elements of Awe, Beauty, Wonder, Meaning, Curiosity, Delight, Connection, and Self-Giving as essential elements of our human experience firmly embedded in our faith traditions but also relevant for those who do not have a religious practice. I call it “Purveyors of Awe” because I aim to convince you, spiritual leaders, that one of the most important things you can do for your communities (churches as well as the wider community) is to advocate and provide opportunities for practices of awe. I am convinced it is what the world needs now, more than ever, and you are uniquely equipped to be a “Purveyor of Awe.”

This non-lectionary series is inspired by Amos, a prophet whose message is that God calls us to let "justice roll down like waters." Worship without justice is not acceptable, rather our songs must move us to action on behalf of the oppressed. Utilizes the music of WDS Guest Expert, Mark Miller. Originally designed for Lent, this version of the series can be adapted for anytime.

Why this series?

This series was originally designed for the Lenten season. This version you are viewing is the “anytime” version of the series with Lent mentions edited out because we found that this powerful journey works any time of year! The focus on baptism and justice is the same.

In this adaptation, Dr. McFee created two versions of what was originally a culminating Easter service. You could choose to begin this series on Easter Sunday or the Sunday after Easter, or you could adapt the materials for use at anytime of the year. The messages in this series are powerful and will make an impact on your congregation whenever you choose to use it, not just during the Lent or Easter seasons.

“Change is good… you go first!” Our brains were designed to be suspicious of change, and for good reason–homeostasis in good measure helps us thrive, protecting us from danger. But if we look closely at what the Creator set in motion, we find that change is actually the most constant part of life and necessary for animating our spirits as we find renewed purpose throughout life. Jesus advocated for changes that would keep us moving toward greater goodness!

But oh my, the evolutionary resistance to change can be debilitating. We have inherited this natural tendency to feel apprehension about change from our ancestors who had to be suspicious of difference in order to survive. But this part of our psyche can cause us, and others, no end of frustration and fear. And it can keep our communities stuck in a way that prevents us from our joy and our passion for ministry.

Sometimes we face major disruptions in our lives and in the rhythms of our communities. Embracing change and letting it “animate us” toward new possibilities is the work we must do in our day. This worship series will help your congregation gain a scriptural and theological foundation for facing change and help start important conversations about the “what’s next” in life and ministry while also providing a light-hearted approach to being stretched into new possibilities!

Using the classic film "It’s a Wonderful Life" as a springboard of discussion on how money affects each of us in different ways, this four-week worship series helps us look squarely in the face of our "money issues" with mindfulness and compassion. In this way we can learn how to find more depth of meaning, healing, and wholeness, as well as a fresh outlook on what constitutes "A Wonder-Full Life."

The movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, starts with God making arrangements to send an angel to assist George Bailey, who finds himself in a financial and spiritual crisis:

God: “There’s a man down on earth that needs our help.”
Clarence, the Angel: “Is he sick?”
God: “No, worse, he’s discouraged.”

Like George Bailey, we sometimes need some help in the midst of the discouragement that can come with our fear about money. In this worship series, we “look back” (Week One) on the origins of our fears with a practice of compassion for ourselves and others and a faith that reminds us of our true worth. We “look in” (Week Two) and find out what courageous vision can help form our new spiritual practices related to money. We “look out” (Week Three) to see how God is calling us to offer our resources–money, time, and passion. And we “look with gratitude” (Week Four) as we move forward into that vision with a renewed sense of abundance.

While this series is focused on our relationship with money, it does not have to be related to a “stewardship campaign” although you might consider this!

This series can be done any time of year, but could be timed in November to have the last week coincide with the Sunday before Thanksgiving, making it a perfect compliment to that holiday and as a lead-up to Advent.

An early 6th century theologian described God as “beguiled by beauty.” The Creator was lured by a longing for beauty and so set in motion a world of immense diversity and goodness. We were made for this Divine Goodness. We were made inherently worthy, not by our “doing,” but by our simply being. All things are beautiful–not by a standard of “pretty” as seen by our eyes, but by an essence of sacred worth that is sensed by the spirit. This is the root and heart of compassion and justice. Practices of contemplation help us train our gaze to these deeper truths. In this worship series we will dwell with the God of Divine Goodness who is deeply in love with us. We will practice ways to return that love as we fall more deeply in love with creation and with one another.

In this series we explore six essential ideas found in Creation Spirituality–a way of living within the community of earth that deepens our reverence for life, participates in the creativity of the cosmos, and develops our passion for justice and human transformation. It compels us to lead lives of spiritual inquiry, creativity, and prophetic action as our sacred work in the world.

A couple of decades ago I attended a conference at a church called “Jubilee” in Asheville, North Carolina. It really was my first experience of this movement and theology called “Creation Spirituality.” I learned that, alongside the liturgical year, they celebrate a cycle of four paths relating to our experience with God:

• recognizing the inherent goodness of all creation - including our own potential for good

• befriending dark places and times in our lives as fodder for new life

• exclaiming divine creativity and our role in co-creating with God

• embodying compassion and power to bring more wholeness and justice to the world.

I instantly felt right at home with the theology and the people. I began to read books by theologian Matthew Fox and to familiarize myself with the ancient Christian mystics (Meister Eckhardt, Julian of Norwich, etc) so beloved in this tradition. It had a profound affect on my spirituality and love for the Divine Creator and this amazing world we get to hang out in!

So when the Creation Spirituality Communities Working Group came to me wondering how more churches might be exposed to this theology, I was excited to forge a collaboration in creating this fully-scripted worship series to add to the Worship Design Studio resources. I hope you will join churches across the country in discovering and exploring this life-affirming spirituality.

These are the earliest series I created before I began to create fully-scripted worship series (and wow, there are a lot of them for Ordinary Time!). They have lots of ideas for every Sunday, every worship art (too many to use, FYI) but you are tasked with creating your own scripts/orders of worship. Tending the New Creation (RCL Year B, Summer — 8 Weeks) - This lectionary-based (Year B) summer series invites us to see our own personal spiritual renewal connected to the renewal of community, creation and the world. Can be adapted for use any time of year.

The Outsiders (RCL Year C, Summer — 7 Weeks) - This lectionary-based (Year B) Epiphany Plus series explores scriptures that describe people finding out about this man, Jesus, and asks how we are recognized and known as his followers.

Prophesies and Pottery (RCL Year C, Summer — 6 Weeks) - Six-week series for Fall Ordinary Time based on RCL Year C. Find hope and restoration through Jeremiah's imagery of God as the Potter who can reshape and remake us, making us vessels of living water ready for a brighter tomorrow. Can be used any time of year.

Bless to Me (Non-Lectinoary — 7 Weeks) This series takes us on a virtual pilgrimage to Ireland while encouraging us to see the blessings that surround us every day–one of the bedrock beliefs of Celtic spirituality. Ordinary time presents us with a wonderful opportunity to explore various traditions of our faith, and this series will be a great way to celebrate the roots and contributions of our Celtic Christian siblings.

A Future with Hope (Non-Lectionary — 11 Weeks) - This non-lectionary series uses the anchor image of a tree to explore growth in our faith journeys. Based on the familiar Jeremiah text “plans for your welfare and not for harm,” this long series originally designed for a summer can be adapted to any length.

Imagine the People of God (Non-Lectionary — 4 Weeks) - This non-lectionary series was inspired by a beautiful song called "Imagine the People of God" (this song crosses boundaries of traditional/contemporary) and each Sunday is based on an aspect of what we can imagine the "kin-dom" of God to look like. Originally designed for Ordinary Time Summer, but could be used any time of year.

The Tie That Binds (Non-Lectionary — 6 Weeks) - This 6-week non-lectionary series can be used anytime you want to focus on how relationships form and transform us. Originally created for a multi-generational event, this series involves ideas for all ages! Video clips from the original event included in the resources.

On the Mend (RCL Year B, Fall — 9 Weeks) - This lectionary-based (Year B) series for Fall asks the question, “are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?” It explores several healing stories of Jesus and focuses on what he teaches will bring wholeness to our lives. Can be adapted for any time of year.

A Way Out of No Way (NL Year 1 — 6 Weeks) - This Fall series is based on the Narrative Lectionary, Year 1, but can be used anytime. Starts with Noah and the flood and features Hebrew texts in which crisis is met with "a way outa no way."

Dwelling and Indwelling (NL Year 1 — 6 Weeks) - This is the second series for Fall following the Narrative Lectionary, Year 1. Explores several narratives from the Old Testament with an eye to discerning what provides a solid foundation and structure for “God’s house.” Drawing on the popularity of HGTV programs, we ask, can we renovate “for God’s sake?” Can be used anytime.

Leading Causes of Life (Non-Lectionary — 7 Weeks) - This non-lectionary series uses a book by the same name as its inspiration. The focus on turning mourning into dancing–living hope in the midst of despair, choosing life over death.

Moving Out of Scare City (Non-Lectionary — 4 Weeks) - This series is designed to support a stewardship focus but could be used anytime of the year. The word play "Scare City" and "scarcity" serves as a powerful metaphor as we consider what true abundance is.

My God is a Rock (Non-Lectionary — 4 Weeks) - This series is an "anytime series," especially good for focusing on the mission of the church and God's steadfast promises in the midst of a turbulent world.

Outside My Own Little World (Non-Lectionary — 9 Weeks) - This non-lectionary series originally designed for the Fall can be adapted for any time of year. It focuses on what true Christian community is and the call to expand beyond “our own little world.” Good for mission focus or lead-up to pledge time.

We Live, We Love (Non-Lectionary — 11 Weeks) - This non-lectionary series is inspired by the epic and dysfunctional family stories in Genesis and offers a lens for looking at our own life and relationship issues. Originally designed as a series for Fall, it can be adapted to any length and used any time of year.
